Colors surround our lives. Does that really matter in business world? Absolutely! Each color you use when you get dressed, in your bedroom, in your car, in your house’s walls… Everything has a meaning. It’s the same in your company’s web design: colors impact on sales and perception.

Think of this: Marketing researches indicate that over 80% to 90% of visual information is related to color. Moreover, most of the time a purchase’s decision is based on colors. It could sound funny but it’s true; for instance, reds and yellows are usually related to food.

Colors can make us feel pleasure, happiness, sadness, coldness, peacefulness, hunger… What kind of feelings do you want your company to transmit? All the process begins with colors in website design.

Colors have three main functions:

  • Appealing effect: Is your web page attractive?
  • Visual effect: Is your site legible for user’s eyes?
  • Physiological function: mental perception, colors affect people’s mind.

Yellow, blue, red, what color to use? Well, it depends on what you want of your website design. So, let me give you some tips that will help you on your decision:

  1. Colors sensitize. Have into account your corporate image and be sure what do you want to transmit. Colors have to match with your logo and company’s identity.
  2. Think of your target market, they are the key for colors! Is not the the same if you’re trying to attract women than men, kids or adults, businessmen or housewives.
  3. Colors have an impact on the visitor’s decision of staying or leaving the page. So be as appealing as you can! Be unique and stand out your competitors.
  4. Be creative but never use more than four or five colors on your site. Be careful with combinations (it’s not only the background, think of text, fonts, the logo, banners, etc.)
  5. The most important thing you can learn: be as simple as you can. When simplicity is taken to the extreme it becomes elegancy.

Make your business bigger. Keep your ideas but always hire a professional. It doesn’t mean a lot of money, affordable and custom web designers are waiting for you.
